Heaven is “A Place Where You Are.” : The Wldlfe Live in Grand Rapids, MI

The Wldlfe brought their newest album, Heaven is a place, to life on their current tour, A Place Where You Are. Midwest-based indie-pop band, The Wldlfe, consisting of Jansen Hogan (vocals, guitar), Carson Hogan (vocals, guitar), Jack Crane (bass), and Miles Laderman (touring, drums), played a beautiful 20-song set for their fans in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 20, 2024. Their set was made up of every song from the album, which was released on August 16, 2024, except for one. Jansen shared that a lot of the album was inspired by his relationship with his girlfriend, making it a perfect album for the lover girls and boys. The album was written by the band and produced by their own, Carson Hogan. Carson also shared to social media that this was the first tour he had the opportunity of designing all of the lights for.

The Wldlfe were joined by openers, Young Culture, who entertained the crowd with a set full of energy and fun vibes. They got the crowd hype and ready for the Wldlfe with a 10-song set, including the crowd-favorite, “Holiday in Vegas.” The pop-punk band is based in New York and is made up of Alex Magnan (vocals), Gabe Pietrafesa (guitar), Simon Hatziioannou (drums), and Mack Clarke (touring, bass).

The Wldlfe opened their set with “Simple Math,” then going right into “Dizzy,” then “What If You Change?,” three songs from their brand new album. For the songs “Wreck My Life,” and “Be There,” brothers Jansen and Carson switched spots on the stage so Carson could be featured front and center. From a fan’s perspective, it was so exciting to really focus on Carson’s vocals and see him capture the crowd.

After slowing things down with songs “Sweet Tooth,” “Waterfalls”, and “Forgive and Forget,” Jansen then announced that he wanted to include a member of the audience in a “bit.” He then called for “the big coin,” and out came a giant coin that would determine the next song: one side reading “GOOD@BAD@US,” and the other, “BOTH / AND.” The coin was handed to an audience member after a pit was opened, and the flip revealed the song “GOOD@BAD@US.” After a few more songs, they wrapped up with hit songs “Blood Orange,” and finally, “Somebody’s Gonna Love You.”

The Wldlfe is a band that loves to stay connected with their fans. They frequently interact on their social media accounts, host a discord for fans to communicate, and take time to meet fans at shows. They share a lot of behind the scenes stuff on their Instagram and TikTok accounts. When not on tour, they do weekly Instagram livestreams where they answer questions and interact with fans. They did a Q&A livestream on YouTube before the release of their album and hosted a listening party on their discord channel. Fans enjoyed sharing opinions and excitement of the new album and tour.
