‘Viva Hinds’: Hinds and The Happy Return Light Up San Francisco
On October 15, Hinds performed at The Chapel in San Francisco, CA. The Spanish indie rock duo, now composed of Carlotta Cosials and Ana García Perrote, kicked off their North American tour last week, following the release of their latest album Viva Hinds just last month.
The Happy Return, an indie rock band from San Diego, CA, opened up the night with an energetic set of playful surf-rock music. Their setlist included older songs like “Time Runs Out”, “Annabeth”, and “Lemonade”, along with newer songs “Feels Like Heaven” and “Pretend”. Their tight guitar solos, catchy rhythms, and infectious stage presence helped warm up the crowd and were the perfect start to the night. By the time they left the stage, the house was packed, even the balcony, leaving fans ready to welcome Hinds in San Francisco.
The anticipation for Hinds built as the lights dimmed and a tapestry reading “Arriving from a beautiful place called Madrid, tonight we are pleased to introduce Hinds – We hope you enjoy the show” hung from the stage.
Opening with “Hi, How Are You” from their newest album, Hinds wasted no time bringing the crowd into their world. Fans cheered as they played older hits like "The Club" and "News for You" from their 2018 album I Don't Run. The energy in the room grew, especially when Hinds jumped into their cover of "Spanish Bombs" by The Clash—a clear crowd favorite, with fans dancing and jumping to the beat.
The night wasn’t without surprises. Hinds brought up the lead singer of The Happy Return for one of the final songs, a spontaneous decision made shortly before the show. Together, they delivered a high-energy performance that had the entire pit jumping. At one point, Carlotta made her way into the crowd. She asked everyone to go down, building up the energy before asking everyone to jump when the beat dropped.
