The Unexpected Journey of Internet Tears: From a Chance Encounter to Musical Evolution
A quest for a PlayStation Vita led Daniel Louis and Zack Apuzzo to cross paths in the height of the Covid pandemic. A mundane transaction on Facebook Marketplace was the start of the musical venture of this rising force in indie-pop, Internet Tears.
“At first I didn’t really want anybody to have too much input, it was just my project” said Daniel, the lead singer of Internet Tears. “It ended up being more, but it wasn’t intended to be that way.”
Daniel started this project when he was still in another band called Radiate. He began to venture into creating his own music, driven by his desire to explore new musical territories beyond his previous work. Zack and Daniel happened to meet at the right time, when Daniel was looking for someone to collaborate with. Zack auditioned, and became an essential part of the band as the drummer.
“Zack provides a lot of the live performance and adds a lot of that touch that I don’t think I necessarily would have done,” said Daniel. “There’s a lot of different things that have come together and evolved as we started the band to what it is today.”
The puzzle was complete when Esteban Rivera (guitar), and Mikey Feliciano (bass guitar) eventually joined the band. “Each member has their own thing they can offer to kind of enhance what’s there,” said Zack.
As Internet Tears transformed from a solo project into a full band, each member brought their own skill set into the project. Their collaboration has played a role in the evolution and growth of Internet Tears, adding new dimensions to their music. Although they have different skill sets, they all share similar goals.
“We love performing and making cool, original music that we want to share with the world,” said Daniel. “I think it’s more about just being together and making the music.”
Initially, Internet Tears’ music leaned heavily on electronic influences. However, as the band solidified its lineup and signed with Black Barrel Records, their sound began to incorporate more pop rock elements. “The last two releases have been full band songs, which is a lot of fun,” said Zack.
Their latest single, “Feels Like Summer,” represents the evolution of their sound. The track, which emerged from a pool of demos, exemplifies their new direction.
“It was just the basic demo of the idea with no singing,” said Daniel. “Once I heard the demo with the lyrics, it was like everything fit together,” added Zack.
As Internet Tears continues to develop, their drive remains centered around live performance, self-expression, and sharing their music with other people.
“For me, it’s about sharing our music with others,” said Daniel. “Talking to people about the music, people having fun at our shows, and people enjoying listening to our songs in the car anywhere they want.”
“The thing that keeps me going is having Internet Tears as an outlet of expression,” said Zack. “Being able to come up with different ideas and show them to people that are into creating and understanding the vision is what motivates me.”
The future of Internet Tears is exciting for both the band and their fans.
“We’re in this beginning stage, we can go anywhere with what we want to do,” said Daniel.
Although they’re still figuring out their next steps, the band has over an album’s worth of songs lined up. They’re excited to announce more shows soon and hope to release more singles or even an EP in the near future.
The name “Internet Tears” may lack a dramatic backstory, but the band’s journey is rich with serendipity and evolution.
