Foxtide Brings Their SoCal Sound to Texas
Foxtide, a band from Southern California, brought their music to Texas on December 18. Currently on their latest tour, they’re on the road showcasing their newest album, Chaos. It’s one thing to stream an album, but experiencing it live is something else entirely.
They kicked off the night by diving right into their newest tracks like “I Didn’t Mean It”, “Chaos”, and “Pilot Wings”. They have a laid back, Southern California kind of energy, but still sharp enough to keep everyone on their toes. Dreamy, and electric, with their own twist of rock. Whether you were an OG fan or just hearing them for the first time, they still made a lasting impression for everyone in the room. It’s like they’ve taken pieces of garage rock, jazz, and indie, and mashed them together into something that’s completely their own sound.
“My Girl Loves Reading” has to be one of my favorite songs on the set. Particularly because out of all their newest tracks this one feels like an OG. It’s like a catchy love letter, and I’m here for it. After this they transitioned to a more reminiscent song, “Pretty Pictures”, a song that sounds purely cinematic. The raw vulnerability in this song sounds like it could be a soundtrack to a movie scene where everything slows down and emotions take over. The range they had on the setlist showed they are able to go into more depth.
As the night went on, they kept it going strong, even mixing a few OG tracks like “Hold On” and “She’s Not Yours.” But the real cherry on top was the unreleased song that left an exciting speculation for what’s next for them. You just had to be there. They thanked the room for being there and expressed how much they loved playing there.
As someone from Texas, I felt like I was in San Diego. This is the kind of rock music that has a jazz yet garage rock sound to it. It’s a sound you close your eyes to and you just get lost in it.
If you ever get the chance to see Foxtide live, what are you waiting for?
