French Cassettes’ Sold Out Show in San Francisco, CA
San Francisco's Alt/Indie band, French Cassettes, brought the new year in with a sold out show at The Independent. This came from a band that recently spent the fall of 2024 touring the US. Band members Scott Huetra, MacKenzie Bunch, and Rob Mills geared up for a night filled with songs from their latest album, Benzene, which takes you through a Seamless journey composed of melodic lyrics and impeccable harmonies.
Two opening bands performed that night – Lucky and Tino Drima. They were both amazing, helping dive right into the night for the main act of the show. The venue filled to the brim as the band walked out for their opening song. Fans almost reached the back, the sides of the venue, and up on the balcony. There was something about tonight, fans were ready for the show to begin.
The band opened with songs like "Good For It," "Dixie Lane," and "Sunday Soda." Everyone in the crowd took in the songs bit by bit. These songs created a heartfelt sway of movement throughout the crowd, with fans also dancing along to the beat.
As the night continued, the band played songs "On/Of," "White Noise," and "Santa Cruz Tomorrow," which were among the following songs on the setlist. These sets of songs were more upbeat, which was interesting to see as the band started with more laid-back songs. I wanted to know if there was any intent behind how they structured the setlist. The songs complimented each other well as someone experiencing these songs for the first time live.
Scott Huerta introduced the next song, "Baseball Bat." "I know we got a lot of baseball fans in the house tonight," he said. This one was a fan favorite; looking through the crowd, I saw people in the front who were excited to hear this song. This one might have been added to one of my favorites as well, along with "White Noise," which was played earlier in the set.
Other songs that were played through the show included “ Medium Horny,” “When You Know, You Know,” and “Eyes Glazed.”
As we entered the set's final phase, the band began to bid their farewell and thanked fans who came out to see them. Fans cheered as they exited the stages, hoping they would come out for an encore song, which they did, concluding their sold-out show at The Independent.
