New Hope Club’s Awaited Return to San Francisco, CA

British pop band New Hope Club welcomed fans at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco on October 20, 2024, as part of their highly anticipated U.S. tour, which kicked off last month in New York City. The band comprises Reece Bibby, Blake Richardson, and George Smith, who are known for their catchy tunes, electrifying performances, and ability to captivate crowds.

Nashville based Pop-Rock band The Band Light warmed up the crowd with songs like “ Lover Girl,” “Pinball,” and a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.” Their stage presence was energetic, keeping the audience wanting more. A fan from the crowd handed a rose to each of the boys, which brought a smile to their faces. Haven Madison, a Nashville based pop singer who recently got her start on American Idol was then welcomed to the stage. “Sky Up” was one of my favorites from her last night, filled with strong lingering vocals that left the crowd in awe. There was a moment that stood out to me  and it was her opening up about her struggles with her mental health which was something people in the crowd could relate to.

New Hope Club opened with fan favorites like “Fixed,” “L.U.S.H.,” and “Permission,” igniting a wave of enthusiasm that swept through the audience. Blake frequently encouraged the crowd to sing even louder, creating an infectious atmosphere.

“It is a pleasure to be here. Thank you for coming down tonight,” Reece said, prompting an uproar of cheers. The band reminisced about their last performance in San Francisco two years ago and shared their excitement about returning.

After a few more upbeat tracks, the band slowed down the show with a heartfelt song called “Don’t Go Wasting Time.” Reece’s opening verse, accompanied by deep-felt guitar strings, shifted the mood in the room. This song stood out as each band member had a moment to shine, and I was captivated by the emotional connection they created with the audience.

The band decided to transition into a cover song for those in the crowd who didn’t know any New Hope Club songs—most specifically, the moms and dads in attendance that night. I was excited about New Hope Club’s cover songs, which were how I discovered the band in 2015 at the start of their career. The band covered “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” by The Rolling Stones. George’s energetic interactions with fans added to the enjoyment as many joined in, singing along.

As the night approached its end, the band unveiled their latest single, “Swimming with Sharks,” which had been released just a week prior. Its groovy vibe left no doubt that it will be a future hit.

Concluding the evening with “Know Me Too Well,” the band said their final goodbyes, tossing out their last guitar picks to eager fans, leaving everyone with excitement long after the final note.
