The Exodo Tour with Peso Pluma in Sacramento, CA

Last Friday, Peso Pluma played to a packed house at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA. At only 25 years old, Peso Pluma has transitioned from an up-and-coming artist to a rising global superstar. He is one of many latin artists who have recently brought latin music into the mainstream, and continues to cement himself into icon status.

The lights dimmed and people rushed to their seats as an ominous voice recited back lines such as “an antihero is among us” which also flashed on the screens intermittently. His fans erupted into deafening screams when Peso Pluma was lifted out onto the stage on a large gold throne, surrounded by his band and dancers.

The first song was “La Durango”, which helped set the mood for the rest of the show. The majority of the songs on the setlist were corridos tumbados - a subgenre of Mexican regional music that was recently popularized among the latino community by artists such as Peso Pluma. This modern genre is faster paced than traditional corridos, mixing reggaeton with traditional Mexican instruments and melodies.

During the third song, his dancers had red glowing eyes and wore all black bodysuits. These dancers along side the band complemented Peso’s performance, adding more elements to it but still letting him keep the spotlight. Throughout the show, Peso made sure to use the entire stage, making his way down the catwalk to interact with fans.

For his hit song “Ella baila sola”, Peso started off the song acapella and paused to let the crowd sing. Their singing echoed throughout the venue as they sang this iconic song that helped him rise to fame and has become a staple song in the latino community.

This show and Peso Pluma’s diverse discography had something for everyone. About halfway through the show, he started a reggaeton segment with “Quema” - a catchy dance hit which is definitely a fan favorite and has made Peso known for his enticing dance moves. This was followed by two more popular dance songs which Peso is featured on - “Qlona” with Karol G. and “La Bebe” with Yng Lvcas. The change in genre showed his versatility, and added another element to the show with this rhythmic medley that had everyone up and dancing.

He further showed his dedication to deliver an outstanding show experience by inviting three surprise guests throughout the show - Cypress Hill, Hector Rubio, Pedro Vargas from Marca MP, and Tito Double P. This added even more variety to the setlist with Hip-Hop and Banda songs one wouldn’t usually hear at a Peso Pluma concert. The guests were very grateful for the opportunity to share the stage with him. Peso also expressed his gratitude for their support during his early career, and for being musical inspirations for him.

Peso Pluma is a strong rising force in Latin music, with an undeniable stage presence and strong connection with his fanbase. He is continuing on the Exodo Tour across the US this fall, and I highly recommend checking out the show in a city near you.
